Floating floors can be installed on top of any existing floor. An interlocking system of grooved and raised edges is used to keep the laminate floor in place by creating a snug connection when joined together. This tongue-and-groove connection system also allows the flooring to expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes and creates the floating floor effect. Before installation begins, the existing floor or sub-floor must be covered with an underlay. Seams on the underlay must be taped if installing laminate over concrete.
