Vinyl is easier to install than other materials because it is more pliable, but the process requires time, patience and exact measurements. We recommend hiring a professional for the job. Vinyl takes several hours to acclimate to room temperature and cold air can harden the material, causing it to crack or snap.
Installation of vinyl requires a completely level sub-floor. If the sub-floor is not level, a layer of quarter-inch plywood should be installed before installation. Sub-floors then require a layer of latex adhesive to secure vinyl tiles to the floor.
After all the tiles have been laid, spread a protective layer of acrylic floor finish on the vinyl surface and leave for 24 hours. Several days after installation, seal the vinyl with two or three coats of professional-grade liquid wax. A thin layer of wax should be reapplied over the topcoat every year.
