Vinyl flooring is easier to install than other materials because it is more pliable, but the process requires time, patience and exact measurements. We recommend hiring a professional for the job. Vinyl takes several hours to acclimate to room temperature and cold air can harden the material, causing it to crack or snap.

Installation of vinyl flooring requires a completely level sub-floor. If the sub-floor is not level, a layer of quarter-inch plywood should be installed before installation. Sub-floors then require a layer of latex adhesive to secure vinyl tiles to the floor.

After all the tiles have been laid, spread a protective layer of acrylic floor finish on the vinyl surface and leave for 24 hours. Several days after installation, seal the vinyl with two or three coats of professional-grade liquid wax. A thin layer of wax should be reapplied over the topcoat every year.
